Five Things From: The Owl House 2×19, Oh Titan Where Art Thou?

Hello everyone and welcome to another edition of Five Things From. This time we are looking back at season 2 episode 19 of The Owl House, Oh Titan Where Art Thou? Which five things stood out and for what reasons? Let’s take a closer look…

  1. Oh Hooty

Oh what naïve optimism poor Hooty has. When him, Luz and King arrived back from their trip, there were now wanted posters for each of them put up by the emperor’s coven. Hooty bless him thought they had put up pretty posters of them because everyone had missed them so much. Unfortunately not Hooty.

2. Should She Say?

Initially Eda had no intention of telling Luz that she had no plan to go against Belos. I get that she didn’t want to upset Luz but she was definitely leading her to believe that there was actually a plan. It was one of those times where she technically wasn’t lying but she was not being straightforward with the truth. It led to a very emotional scene later where Eda openly admitted that her plan was to keep Luz and King safe and was fully prepared to sacrifice herself to do so.

3. Guard Banter

Something I always have a soft spot for in movies and tv shows is the light-hearted banter that the villain’s guards and henchmen have with one another. It makes them more human and relatable, highlighting how they are just there as a job rather than being fully invested in their leader’s cause. We saw one guard moaning about having to work a double shift and couldn’t wait until the day after the day of unity so he can have a rest.

4. Darius

Finding out that Darius is actually a good guy willing to fight against the Emperor made me way too happy. Now I can properly root for him!

5. Steve

The whole subplot with King and Steve didn’t really work; it just felt too random. Why would King trust this guy. He came out of nowhere and it just all felt rushed and out of nowhere. The stuff with Lilith treating King differently that led into the Steve stuff was rather clunky too. There would have been much better ways to have King deal with his new found history than this.

Five Things From: The Owl House 2×11, Follies at the Coven Day Parade

Hello everyone and welcome to another edition of Five Things From. This time we are looking back at season 2 episode 11 of The Owl House, Follies at the Coven Day Parade. Which five things stood out and for what reasons? Let’s take a closer look…

  1. Messaging

The episode started with Luz creating a message for her mum. Is her phone able to still connect with the human world. That is pretty good reception if so because I can’t imagine that the Boiling Isles is set up with 4G. Luckily, she wasn’t trying to livestream her since there were some pretty creepy and crazy things going on which Luz might want to consider editing out!

2. Amity and Willow

There was a short scene between Amity and Willow which reflected how many friendship groups in real life operate. You have those members of the group who often ended up hanging out together but not usually one on one. When it does happen, it tends to stand out as a sort of anomaly. If anyone has seen Friends, Rachel and Chandler with the cheesecake is a good example of this.

3. Hooty

Hooty is once again causing me to burst out into laughter unashamedly. The exchange in question occurred while Hooty and King were operating a large sculpture of the Emperor from inside it during the parade. One of the guards shouted “Kill the monstrosity” to which Hooty quickly quipped back, “not the first time I’ve heard that.” Self-deprecating humour at its finest.

4. Kikimura

The Emperor’s underling was back, now with added mommy issues. They teased her becoming good but then had her double down on being evil all along. She was rather easily seduced back to the side of the Emperor with promises of a promotion. She didn’t get it, instead being told that being allowed to live was her reward for not following through with her betrayal. This all come from a hedge witch called Terra whose plant themed offense sets her up to be a very interesting secondary antagonist.

5. Reveals

In what appeared to be a slightly meta moment, Willow and Gus reacted very underwhelmingly to the Emperor’s identity reveal. This was surely a nod to how the character’s face had been purposely concealed for so long with a very underwhelming payoff happening. The Emperor did also talk about the day of unity and you have to believe that is where we will reach the season finale with all sorts of magical madness kicking off. I for one can’t wait!

Five Things From: Owl House 1×16, Enchanting Grom Fight

Hello everyone and welcome to another edition of Five Things From. This time we are looking back at season 1 episode 16 of The Owl House, Enchanting Grom Fight. Which five things stood out and for what reasons? Let’s take a closer look…

  1. King

King discovered the internet in this episode and of course he immediately became obsessed with cat videos. It made sense as they share his love of dominance over others and having minions do things for them. It did made me chuckle as even though the cats introduced him to the concept of chasing one’s tail, he just didn’t have the energy to do it. That’s a whole world of fun he is denying himself there.😅🐱

2. Mother

This episode finally highlighted that Luz is still updating her mum but only very vaguely through text messages that consist mainly of emojis. I was wondering if she was just completely ignoring her so it was nice to get that answered. It was interesting too how her mum discovering what she had been up to in the Burning Isles was actually her biggest fear. That just highlights how much good her time with Eda has done for her and how she can finally be her true self (something that she was clearly struggling to do in the human world). This story also set us up with a very interesting cliffhanger where we see somebody has been writing letters to Luz’s mum pretending to be Luz. Who and why? I am intrigued…

3. Grom

Grom turned out to be the Boiling Isles version of prom, albeit with a ritualistic monster battle which may or may not lead to an inadvertent sacrifice of a tween…sounds great. The concept of a monster that can transform into what you fear most is not a new idea (see or read Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban) but it was used to explore Luz’s deeper feelings and worries which was definitely the more effective way to use it, rather than going round showing what every single character is scared of…although seeing Eda’s would be interesting…

It was Amity who was initially chosen but Luz took her place. A couple of hints along with Amity wanting to ask Luz out to Grom more or less confirmed that the show is heading down a romantic path between the pair. I’m all for it and I really like the little twist on it being the conventionally more “popular” one developing feelings first.

4. Stealing that phrase

“Why so twitchy witchy” is a phrase I am now stealing to use when I’m checking in if someone is okay. It will be used in rotation with “why so glum chum” which was from another tv show but I can’t remember which one!

5. Disco

That creature being used as the disco ball got a really bad deal. Not only was he put up there way too early, he felt sick almost immediately and was just left up there afterwards as nobody bothered to get him down. Poor guy.
