Five Things From: Legends of Tomorrow Season 7 episode 3, wvrdr_error_100 not found (The 100th Episode)

Hello everyone and welcome to another edition of Five Things From. This time we are looking back at season 7 episode 3 of Legends of Tomorrow, the 100th episode, wvrdr_error_100<oest-of-th3-gs.gid30n> not found. Which five things stood out and for what reasons? Let’s take a closer look…

  1. 100

This episode allowed Legends of Tomorrow to celebrate the 100 episode milestone; a milestone that not too many shows get to reach. Now whether that be for better or worse, I would argue that Legends of Tomorrow has been one of (if not the) most consistent shows in the Arrowverse. It has managed to go from a rocky start to the most entertaining superhero show out there and while no longer hitting the highs as often as it used to , it manages to deal with an ever-changing ensemble cast admirably.

2. Pies

When it comes to pies there is definitely a right and wrong answer so Gideon had no idea what she was talking about on that front. And nine times out of ten, the right decision is eating the pie.

3. Bishop

I was actually surprised by the return of Bishop; the villain from last season who camps it up in a way very reminiscent to WWE Wrester Seth Freakin Rollins (look it up, I stick by it). This was the version of him before he went insanely evil…although after the events of this episode, he seems to be on the highway to crazy town anyway. Thankfully, they gave us some flashbacks as I couldn’t fully remember what happened with him in the finale but he is definitely a villain worth exploring more. After season 2 of Legends spoiled us with the All Star Legion of Doom, the show has had somewhat of a villain problem. Bishop was one of the exceptions so it was great to see him back once more.

4. The OGs

It was so good to see so many of the original Legends back for some cameo appearances. We even got Hawkman, who was much more entertaining as they were leaning into his inherent goofiness much more. Seeing the likes of Professor Stein, Jax, Ray and Captain Cold bought back so many fond memories. The best used returning character though has to be Rip. As great as it was to just see the wonderful Arthur Darvill again, they really used him to further Gideon’s character. The two of them always have great chemistry, even when Gideon is only a voice. And that final shot where Legends past and present all stood united together? Wonderful.

5. Gideon

What a clever choice to have the show focus on Gideon, who is both an original team member and the newest team member thanks to her new human body. Due to there being no current Wave Rider, there was quite the chance that we could have had no Gideon at all. Thankfully, actress Amy Pemberton gets to finally appear in the flesh for a sustained amount of time to add some new layers to the long-running AI turned human. If only Rip was still alive as I would have loved to have seen the two of them together more.

Five Things From: Community 4×8, Herstory of Dance

(I do not claim to own any rights in regard to the images used in this post)

Hello everyone and welcome to another edition of Five Things From. This time we are looking back at season 4 episode 8 of Community, Herstory of Dance. Which five things stood out and for what reasons? Let’s take a closer look…

  1. Dean Fashion

The mandatory Dean fashion section gets spot number one this week. His black and white outfit made him look like someone straight out of an old photo or film! It was so well-done but also really weird…but not as weird as he looked in a suit and tie later on!

2. Shirley dropping knowledge

Shirley’s view of finding a blind-date for Abed only being a competition for the loser highlighted just how confident she was. In her mind it wasn’t even a competition as she saw her victory as so much of  a sure-fire inevitability. The whole thing with Abed was more fun than I thought it would be because they openly acknowledged how much they were playing into the “two simultaneous dates” sitcom trope.

3. Colin

In this episode Chang was branded the “Colin Farrell of people”. Now first of all are they suggest here that Colin Farrell isn’t even a person? Also, was he not liked in America at this time? I haven’t really seen much with him in but haven’t heard too many things about him good or bad. Now Colin Firth on the other hand, that is an actor called Colin I can enjoy.

4. Weirdness

Is talking into a balloon a thing? That was way too weird for me if I was set up on that date. The scooter flipping though? She set that scooter up quickly and without hassle. That’s the kind of thing that impresses a date.

5. Care

Pierce wasn’t a jerk come the end of all this! It caught me off guard: he genuinely cared about Brita’s feelings. Who knew he had it in him?

Five Things From She Hulk Season 1 finale: Whose show is this?

Hello everyone and welcome to another edition of Five Things From. This time we are looking at the She Hulk season 1 finale, Whose show is this? Which five things stood out and for what reasons? Let’s take a closer look…

  1. Todd

Todd being revealed as Hulk King was fine and made sense in the context of the show. However, it also highlighted the issue with building up a mysterious villain for the whole season; the reveal has to be worth it. It made sense within the context of the story but it wasn’t all that interesting really. Plus his transformation was giving me “buff Shaggy” vibes…if you know you know.

Here you are…buff Shaggy…

2. That forth wall is broken baby!

If you asked me before this started, I would not have called She Hulk smashing her way out of the show onto the Disney Plus streaming service menu! This took her forth wall breaks to a whole new level. However I have split feelings on it. On one hand, it really was a unique way to push the whole “take control of your own story” idea they have been playing with and also playfully poked fun at some of the MCU’s common criticisms (although they do honestly need to think about listening to some of those critiques because they do hold merit). The Kevin twist was also very clever. On the other hand, it worked to be a bit of a copout to how to actually finish the story that the season has been telling. It felt like She Hulk jumped out to Marvel HQ and then it was “look it’s all sorted, don’t ask questions, hey there’s Daredevil again!” It was a way to get out of writing a proper in-story ending.

3. Abomination

Why couldn’t they just let Abomination stay good. I was glad that he wasn’t apart of the Jen-bashing group, instead just being a speaker you can hire while in his Abomination form. He still ended up going back to jail and it just felt unnecessary. Let the guy be good!

4. Daredevil

Daredevil surprisingly appeared again and we even got to see him at the Hulk family BBQ. Are he and Jen a couple now? I’m not against it if so. I wonder if this means She Hulk will be in the Daredevil series, and again I’m not against it.

5. Credits spoiler

They messed up in the credits as we saw “Special Guest Star Benedict Wong” appear on screen seconds before we cut to the post-credits to see…you guessed it, Benedict Wong appear! That was silly and I’m sure crediting cameos in the post-credits scenes BEFORE the post-credit scenes isn’t something they usually do.

Five Things From: Modern Family 1×10, Undeck The Halls

Hello everyone and welcome to another edition of Five Things From. This time we are looking back at season 1 episode 10 of Modern Family, Undeck the Halls. Which five things stood out and for what reasons? Let’s take a closer look…

  1. Timing a Telling Off

It has happened to us all and we have all felt the embarrassment and awkwardness that comes with it. Pick an appropriate time to tell off your kids! It wasn’t like they had immediately done something either that Claire had to stop them from doing. She really lost her patience there!

2. Me Neither

I hold my hands up…I’ve never seen Miracle on 34th Street Fight either. I think it is more iconic in America in the UK. Is not seeing it there that much of a big deal?

3. Shush!

The sacking of the Santa guy was unfortunate, although Mitchell didn’t directly contribute to it as wholly as I feel he believed. I just kept thinking you don’t need to tell him you complained! What would that solve? And this was before he pulled the knife out!

4. True

After a quick Google it turns out that practical jokes are actually a Christmas tradition in Colombia. You learn something new every day.

5. Following Through

Fair play to Phil on following through with his threat to take away Christmas. As a teacher I can’t emphasise how important it is to follow through…maybe think about how big you are making the threat though!

Five Things From: Lucifer 6×8, Save the Devil, Save the World

Hello everyone and welcome to another edition of Five Things From. This time we are looking back at season 6 episode 8 of Lucifer, Save the Devil, Save the World. Which five things stood out and for what reasons? Let’s take a closer look…

  1. Flashbacks…sort of

As a show or a season is coming to an end, they often enjoy indulging in a flashback episode. These are often viewed as lazy and a cop out, but sometimes shows do subvert your expectations and do actually put a bit of effort in. Doing flashbacks through them reading Lynda’s book was fun as they were in fact new scenes warped by Lynda’s lack of background knowledge regarding some of the situations. The initial one in the police station as it stripped the characters right back to their most basic characteristics. I liked the little detail of Ella’s shirt that just said “happy shirt” on it as she usually wears something with a cute picture or phrase on.

2. Ella

Ella was once again in fine form and remains a very endearing character. Her joyful reaction to Amenadiel sprouting (is that the right word?) his wings and flying off into the sky was one of pure, innocent wonder.

3. Eve

Why wasn’t Eve helping? What else was she doing? If Maze was pulled away from her wedding night with Eve, why wouldn’t Eve just come too and assist?

4. Burnt

Was Lynda not a bit drastic to burn her book? It was actually an interesting book concept that I would genuinely like to read. Publish the books for real!

5. Decisions

We finally got the big decision that I think we all knew was coming: Lucifer doesn’t want to be God after all. He put it so simply and in a way that really is a good way to deal with getting stuck doing something you don’t enjoy: I don’t want to do it so I’m not going to. Sometimes that is a piece of advice that you just have to take.

Five Things From: Community 4×7, Economics of Marine Biology

Hello everyone and welcome to another edition of Five Things From. This time we are looking back at season 4 episode 7 of Community, Economics of Marine Biology. Which five things stood out and for what reasons? Let’s take a closer look…

  1. Archie

Archie was not likeable. Archie was not supposed to be likeable though and that is where so many shows run into a problem. They base an episode around a purposely irritating and unlikeable person and then the enjoyment of the episode suffers as you have to watch the regular characters try and please them. The guy was set up to be at least amusing as a guy who attempted to sell drugs to a police officer…at a police station. However he just ended up being annoying and rather one-note.

2. Haunting

Shirley’s line will send chills down the spines of unfit people everywhere…”you can’t run from running forever”. (Shudder)

3. PEE

I did really enjoy the subplot where (for some random reason) Troy and Shirly took a class to learn how to be Gym Teachers. It was Community randomness at its best and every sequence just made me smile and chuckle. It was a fun subversion seeing the “jock” Troy struggle in Gym class while Shirley succeeded but it was never overly cruel to Troy. He got to learn how to be a gym teacher by the end. Whoever came up with the idea of the “mocker-room” deserves a medal though. Comedy gold.

4. Adam F. Goldberg

I got way too excited when I spotted that Adam F.Goldberg was the executive producer of this episode. Now I am thinking how many episodes had he done before this where I had missed his name appear? His semi-autobiographical sit-com “The Goldbergs” is one of, if not my favourite comedy (sorry Community). Beverly Goldberg=all-time great American comedy character. Oh my goodness, imagine a crossover!

5. Oh dear

Pierce: “It reminds me of a time when men were men and women were sex cooks who did laundry”…well, there’s just no way to really defend that.

Five Things From: Modern Family 1×9, Fizbo

Hello everyone and welcome to another edition of Five Things From. This time we are looking back at season 1 episode 9 of Modern Family, Fizbo. Which five things stood out and for what reasons? Let’s take a closer look…

  1. X time earlier

The show pulled out the well used trope of showing something random or dramatic (in this the  family gathering at the hospital) before cutting to the day before, leaving us waiting to get to that point. They used it well by cutting back to it a few times, building suspense and making it wonder who got hurt by showing a couple more people each time. They also kept dropping in things during the episode like rock walls, scorpions and crossbows to keep you guessing about what the injury might be. Overall I felt that a lot more effort was put into using that trope than what you would see in other shows.

2. Clowns

I have to say that I’m not a clown person. I think in regard to children’s parties, it is more an American than British thing but I’ve still never really saw the appeal. Mitchell did indeed ask the question of whether anybody has ever seen a “good” clown. My favourite bit of the whole episode was Phil nonchalantly noting that his fear of clowns may have came from finding the dead body of one in the woods when he was little. The fact that it was moved on from ever so quickly made the moment even funnier.

3. Don’t Worry

Manny need not beat himself up too much; the interrupting cow joke is not an easy one to deliver. Plus the timing and delivery of the receiver of the joke saying “interrupting cow who” can easily throw you off.

4. Cake

Even the idea of a stuffing cake makes me feel both sick and curious…

5. Crafts

It was a clear misfire from Claire with the crafts table. Are comb sheafs even a thing? I have never heard of them. And if they are a thing, is decorating them something that people regularly do?

Five Things From She Hulk 1×8, Ribbit it and Rip it

Hello everyone and welcome to another edition of Five Things From. This time we are looking at season 1 episode 8 of She Hulk, Ribbit it and Rip it. Which five things stood out and for what reasons? Let’s take a closer look…

  1. Matt Murdoch

This episode saw the anticipated arrival of Matt Murdoch and for the most part, I think they handled his introduction pretty well. He still had the same charm and they didn’t make him too quippy. He was a little more light-hearted than he was in his own show but you have to accept that to a certain extent due to the much more comedic tone of She Hulk. They let him show off his legal prowess straight away by unravelling Jen’s case but they…let’s say made friends, by the end of the episode.

2. Daredevil

I don’t like the golden suit but that is just my personal preference. They got some good action sequences in; he even got to fight in a hallway! A big part of Daredevil’s appeal are the fight scenes so although they didn’t exactly live up to the Netflix run’s best, it was still good to see so much action. The little details like the use of the old Daredevil theme tune and even a Punisher reference, were very much appreciated.

3. Leapfrog

This guy was wonderfully ridiculous. Street level MCU at its finest. With more money than sense, it was over the top fun and I loved it. He was absolutely deluded but they went all out with it, and sometimes going full on with the silliness but playing it kind of straight really pays off.

4. Wakanda Forever

Seeing an idiot like that do the Wakanda Forever gesture…yeah, it wasn’t right. There would be people like this in the world though; collecting artifacts and memorabilia from battles. It as an ugly side to the Marvel world that She Hulk has done rather well at exploring.

  • 5. The Ending

Who is Hulk King?

How is this end confrontation going to go?

I can’t actually see how this reveal and finale is actually going to go…

If it is one of Jen’s friends or family I will feel so bad for her.

Five Things From: Lucifer 6×7, My Best Fiend’s Wedding

Hello everyone and welcome to another edition of Five Things From. This time we are looking back at season 6 episode 7 of Lucifer, My Best Friend’s Wedding. Which five things stood out and for what reasons? Let’s take a closer look…

  1. What is Dan?

Ella once again bought out her board about everyone’s true identities and it was impressive how much she was able to deduce. What made me chuckle however was her attempts to guess who Dan really was. A vampire? A werewolf? A centaur? Now Dan as a centaur would have been a very strange development!

2. Mugs

Now I think Carol is slightly weird. You don’t just use a dead guy’s personalised mug; even if he was your friend. It is just a bit weird!

3. Adam

We got to meet the first man and I enjoyed how he was presented. Of course he would be slightly misogynistic and ooze toxic masculinity. He wasn’t horrible though and he actually became endearing as he worked his best to change, although he wasn’t all that good at it. He has started a journey down a positive path though!

4. Ella

Finally Ella told everyone she knows! I know it will only be for a few episodes but it will be great to see her get to finally interact with every as their full selves. Carol still doesn’t know though but that is probably for the best. Ella must have been properly confused by the zombie thing and at first you would be thinking “wow, Maze’s family are a bit gormless, aren’t they?”

5. Signage

“Pick a set not a sign, wither ways it’s for the bride”. If I ever go to a lesbian wedding and this sign isn’t there then I will be disappointed.

Five Things From Flash 7×14, Rayo De Luz

Hello everyone and welcome to another edition of Five Things From. This time we are looking back at Flash season 7 episode 14, Rayo De Luz. Which five things stood out and for what reasons? Let’s take a closer look… I will warn you I did not like this episode.

  1. Barry

Barry hardly appeared in this and it frustrated me for a number of reasons. The first one was why did he go to somewhere that had no phone reception? He is a guy who can run at the speed of sound so could go anywhere in the world. Why not go and make babies with your wife somewhere where there is phone reception…or, stay at work and just do it at night when you get home!

2. Barry (again)

Barry is appearing more in this than he did the actual episode. This felt diluted as we are now watching a show called The Flash where the titular hero disappears for episodes and a range of different c-level characters who you don’t care about take centre stage. It put me off the episode almost immediately!

3. Sue

It was a good job Sue hung around from last episode to be the voice of reason. She is a likeable enough character but demonstrates how the cast has grown so much as to where random people can just wander in and get featured roles in episodes. Also without Ralph to bounce off she feels a tad pointless.

4. Kramer

The Kramer and Joe stuff actually has some intrigue to it. I feel that there is still more to unearth with this story and it gives Joe something to do now he has quit the CCPD. Kramer is gradually becoming more interesting and although I wouldn’t call her likeable, her character does seem to have layers to it.

5. Shipping

Chester and Allegra becoming a couple? It is hard to put into words how little I care.
